Do you accept insurance?
Unfortunately, I don't take insurance, but I do accept Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts. I also offer payment plans.
Your sessions are virtual. What does that mean?
I meet with clients via video chat. It's similar to FaceTime, but it's secure and HIPAA-compliant. You can use your smartphone, tablet, or computer. This means you can attend your sessions from the comfort of your home, office, or anywhere you have a wifi connection!
How do I know if I need one-on-one support?
Even if you are only slightly worried about food, weight, or your appearance, one-on-one support can be beneficial. You don't have to wait until things get worse to justify getting help.
What is Intuitive Eating?
Intuitive Eating (IE) is the way we were born to eat. Intuitive eating is simply getting us back to the food instincts we once knew. There are 10 Intuitive Eating principles developed by Evelyn Tribole, RD and Elyse Resch, RD. Some tenets of IE help us re-learn how to listen to the physical sensations of our body. The other principles help us question diet culture's unhelpful rules about food, exercise, weight.
Can we work together even if I have doubts about Intuitive Eating?
Absolutely. Changing the way we think about food can be tough. As long as you are willing to consider approaching food in a new way, I'm happy to meet you where you are!
You're a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. What does that mean?
I've been trained and certified by the creators of Intuitive Eating, Evelyn Tribole, RD, and Elyse Resch, RD to help people get off the diet rollercoaster and heal their relationship with food. The certification includes extensive training, supervision sessions with Evelyn, and testing.
Can you help me lose weight?
I help people make peace with food and allow their body to find it's natural and realistic weight range. This is where their weight lands when they're nourishing themselves well (not restricting), engaging in joyful movement and practicing good self-care. We don't focus on weight loss because this will affect eating decisions and sabotage the food healing process. Sadly, we live in a culture that has unrealistic standards, equates thinness to health, praises weight loss, and encourages disordered eating. So, if you're wrestling with this answer, I get it and know that I'm sending lots of compassion your way.
You talk about giving yourself permission to eat ALL foods, but if I let myself eat cookies, I'm afraid I won't stop!
This is a common concern, so know that you're not alone! Here's the short answer. Once you give yourself unconditional permission to eat cookies whatever, whenever, and however much you want, they will lose their power, and you'll be able to listen to your body's signals of hunger, fullness, and satisfaction. And the feelings of out-of-control eating will begin to fade.
