Principle 4: Challenge the Food Police⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

👮‍ The food police are the voices in your head that enforce diet and food rules and constantly judge you.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

😠 “Better not eat that bagel. It’s high in carbs.”⁣⁣⁣⁣
😡 “You didn’t exercise today. You should eat a “light” dinner.”⁣⁣⁣⁣
😠 “Should you be eating that?”⁣⁣⁣⁣
😡 “It’s past 7pm. It’s too late to eat.”⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

✌️ If you want your eating to be easy, flexible, and just not that big of a deal, the food police can’t stick around.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

🙌 God gave you the ability to self-regulate your eating, but that’s really hard to do with all the noise from the food police.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

💡 How can YOU begin to challenge the food police?⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

🤔 Start by examining your own food rules: ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

🔹 Do you count anything (calories, macros, points, etc.)?⁣⁣⁣⁣
🔹 Do you have any rules about what time of the day is okay to eat?⁣⁣⁣⁣
🔹 Are there foods you avoid?⁣⁣⁣⁣
🔹 Do you believe carbs should be limited?⁣⁣⁣⁣
🔹 Do you think sweets should be avoided?⁣⁣⁣⁣
🔹 ____________⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣.

🔍 Next, think about where those rules originated:⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

🔹 Social media?⁣⁣⁣⁣
🔹 Friends?⁣⁣⁣⁣
🔹 Family?⁣⁣⁣⁣
🔹 Health professional?⁣⁣⁣⁣

🍪 If you think sweets should be avoided: “I’m working on making peace with all foods, and sweets are just another food – neither “good” nor “bad” – and I can eat them anytime I want.” (If this made you uncomfortable, check back in with principle 3.)⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣

✏️ If you count anything. “My body is incredibly smart and will self-regulate my eating if I allow it to do so. I don’t need to count calories, macros, points or anything else.”⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣
