Principle 6: Discover the Satisfaction Factor

Principle 6: Discover the Satisfaction Factor⁣⁣⁣⁣

🤗 Did you know that it’s okay to enjoy your food?⁣⁣⁣⁣

👍 Sure, “food is fuel,” but it’s not JUST fuel. It’s also meant to be pleasurable!⁣

🍲 God could have given us flavorless food flakes to live on, but instead, He gave us a wide range of delicious foods!

😑 Diets and food rules take the pleasure out of eating.⁣⁣⁣⁣

👮‍♀️ When you’re on a diet, and the desire for an “off limits” food pops up, the food police tell you to choose something else - a “healthier” food. Overtime, this policing interferes with your food satisfaction.⁣⁣⁣⁣

🍴 When you substitute “healthier” versions of what you truly want, you’ll likely have to eat a lot of it to feel satisfied, or you’ll end up eating a bunch of other things in search of that satisfaction.⁣⁣⁣⁣

🍪 Ex. After dinner, you want cookies, but you eat cinnamon-flavored rice cakes instead. Those don’t satisfy you so you try dried fruit, but that doesn’t hit the spot either so you have apple slices with peanut butter AND a few cookies. By the end of the food chase, you’ve ended up eating a lot more than you would have had you just allowed yourself the cookies.⁣⁣⁣⁣

⭐️ When your intuition is in charge, you choose the food you really want, and you’re rewarded with pleasure and satisfaction.⁣⁣⁣

⁣🧐 How can you discover the satisfaction factor?⁣⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣⁣🔹When you’re moderately hungry, ask yourself what foods you truly want and what would you eat if money/time were no obstacle.⁣⁣⁣⁣

🔹Over the next few days, write down all of the food desires that come to mind.⁣⁣⁣⁣

🔹Pick one item off your list to start with and purchase/prepare  it.⁣⁣⁣⁣

🔹Make time to eat without distractions and in a pleasant environment.⁣⁣⁣⁣

🔹Pay attention to the taste, texture, aroma, appearance, temperature and filling-capacity of the food. ⁣⁣⁣⁣

🔹After a few bites, ask yourself: Is the taste and texture consistent with my desire? Is the food satisfying?⁣⁣⁣⁣

🔹Notice when the food no longer tastes as exciting.⁣⁣⁣⁣

❤️ What if it’s not always possible to eat exactly what you want? Intuitive eating does not seek perfection. Sometimes honoring your hunger is the best you can do!
